At American Hotel Register Company we recognize the importance of Living Green. We have designed our Living Green program to not only help our customers move towards more environmentally- friendly practices, but also internally implement these Living Green ideas. As a leader in the Hospitality Industry, we strive to serve as the benchmark for incorporating sustainable practices into all aspects of our business.

Here are some of our own ideas that we are implementing to conserve energy, water and save the environment!

    Energy Efficiency
  • We are currently conducting energy audits in each of our Distribution Centers.
  • Our Fontana and Vernon Hills Distribution Center lighting project's have been completed. All HID lamps have been replaced with energy efficient lamps and ballasts.
  • Our Corporate Headquarters Garage in Vernon Hills is currently being retrofitted with energy efficient lighting.
  • Replacing incandescent lighting in our Vernon Hills Corporate Facility with energy efficient lighting, as well as reducing the number of lamps required in each fixture to lower our energy usage.
  • We are in the process of evaluating each of our conference rooms, break rooms, copy rooms, bathrooms and storage rooms for light sensor installations.
  • All of our Ricoh, high-speed copiers are Energy Star Efficient.
  • All of our refrigerators and microwave ovens are Energy Star Efficient.
  • Moving forward, all new equipment purchased will be Energy Star approved.
  • Our computers are set to power down after idle period of time.

    Water Conservation
  • 100% of our toilets, faucets and showers are low-flow.
  • 100% of our bathroom faucets are on timers.
  • We have found that using disposable diningware versus China in our Corporate Headquarters significantly reduces our water usage.

    Pollution
  • We have instituted a ride share program.
  • We also have added a public transportation stop at our corporate headquarters.
  • Since 2005, we have used low VOC (volatile organic compounds which emit smog producing pollutants into the air) paints.
  • 100% of our cleaning products are low VOC.
  • We did not use any aerosol air-deodorizers in our bathrooms.
  • All cleaning products used in our facilities are environmentally- friendly, biodegradable and water-soluble.
  • American Hotel Register Company's international headquarters and Illinois Regional Distribution Center participate in Clean Air Counts, a voluntary public-private initiative to reduce smog-forming pollutants and energy consumption in the greater Chicago area.

    Waste Management
  • We recycle all cans, bottles and paper using a third party to sort and properly recycle our waste.
  • We recycle all office products when an associate leaves.
  • All of our Regional Distribution Centers have gone paperless.
  • We donate our computer batteries to local schools.
  • We recycle all large batteries.
  • We mail back all of our HP toners and cartridges for recycling.
  • We also use a third party to pick up any non-HP products to be recycled.
  • 75% of the headsets we use are refurbished.

    What We Are Working On
  • We have contracted a minority company called Ongweoweh Corporation to evaluate our pallet usage and provide recommendations for waste reduction in our various Regional Distribution locations. Ongweoweh was founded in 1978 by Frank C. Bonamie, a former chief of the Cayuga Indian Nation of New York. Since that time, Ongweoweh has become a leader in the pallet industry, distributing, managing, recovering, and recycling more than 17 million pallets yearly throughout North America.
  • Working with Xpedx on improving our current shipping and packaging practices. Xpedx supports third-party certification of forests, forest products and the supply chain that distributes those products. They are nationally certified for chain of custody to standards established by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). Xpedx offers a comprehensive portfolio of recycled, recyclable, and biodegradable products, as well as products that are process-chlorine free, contain post-consumer waste, or are manufactured using alternative energies, including wind power.
  • Have contracted Astor Recycling Company in Glen Ellyn, Illinois to evaluate our current waste management practices. They are auditing everything from our corrugated use to shrink wrap, to our disposal of garbage.
